Stanthorpe & The Granite Belt:
Stanthorpe is only 2.5hrs by road, south west of Brisbane. The main route through Stanthorpe is the New England Highway.
Stanthorpe is at an elevation of nearly 3000 feet, and as such enjoys the coolest and most pleasant climate in Queensland with consistent low humidity and four distinct seasons. Ideal Wine Grape growing conditions.
The Granite Belt is named for the very literal belt of granite rock running thogh the area. Once a site of active underground volcanoes, the area is littered with the remains of cooled and hardened molten magma.
A combination of erosion and elements has left a striking landscape, granite boulders and the famous Pyramids and Bald Rock.
Tourists will find National Parks, Wineries, tours, walking trails, fishing, boating, fossicking as well as many events held each year.
Accommodation is available at motels, hotels, caravan parks, bed and breakfasts, farm stays and self contained cottages. Bookings are essential, in particular during festival time and the winter months.
